There are a range of NZQA accredited training providers and courses available in New Zealand. Courses are available through polytechnics and private training institutions.
The list below (in alphabetical order) gives the current NZQA accredited training providers in Massage Therapy. We suggest that you check with training institutions that the course you are interested in is also NZQA accredited, as not all courses are. As of 2017, the minimum NZQA requirement is now a level 5 qualification for those beginning training in Massage Therapy.

NZ Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation The purpose of this qualification is to provide the health sector and massage therapy industry with practitioners who can provide wellness and relaxation massage therapy services. NZ Diploma in Remedial Massage The purpose of this qualification is to provide the health sector industry and massage therapy profession with people who can provide remedial massage services. Graduates will be able to work within the Massage New Zealand Scope of Practice defined by Remedial Massage. Graduates will be able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate remedial massage therapy interventions to address musculoskeletal dysfunction. Subjects covered: Functional Assessment and Clinical reasoning, Advanced techniques 1, Pathology for Massage Practice, Clinical Practice 1, Massage for Physical Performance, Advanced Techniques 2, Research for Massage Practitioners, and Clinical Practice 2.

NZ Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation Massage Delivered Full Time over 40 weeks. Study Massage, whilst having the flexibility for life and work commitments. Students attend class 2-days per week for "hands-on" massage technique training, with theory components such as anatomy, physiology, nutrition and business studies covered fully online, in your own time, in and around your other commitments each week. Components include relaxation massage techniques, advanced massage techniques, sports massage, pregnancy massage, aged care massage, chair massage and hot stone massage, along with anatomy, physiology, nutrition, business and basic research skills. Study integrates clinic training, where students will massage members of the public under tutor supervision - enabling students to experience a real-world clinic, in a safe and supported environment. Graduating students will meet the requirements of Massage Aotearoa New Zealand (MANZ) to be Registered Massage Therapists and to enter the Massage Therapy industry with highly valued skills and confidence. Graduates of this diploma gain entry to the NZ Diploma in Remedial Massage (Level 6). |

NZ Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation Massage (NZQA Version 2 approved December 2023) The NZCCM massage programme is an exciting mix of hybrid delivery with a flexible, practice-based schedule of F2F and online sessions, and block course learning. With purpose-built clinics, and supervision for workplace integrated learning, our programme develops a community of practitioners. We equip graduates to enter the profession with a strong understanding of MANZ Scope of Practice for wellness and relaxation massage. NZ Diploma in Remedial Massage (Online/blended delivery mode available) The NZCCM hybrid delivery mode offers flexible learning options with Tāmaki Makaurau students coming back into the college, and those living outside the city to be able to attend simultaneously online. In addition, our schedules include block course clinical learning enabling graduates to practice – assess, plan, implement and evaluate remedial massage therapy interventions. With evidence-based knowledge, integrated approaches to equity, inclusivity and diversity and practice-based skills within the MANZ remedial massage scope of practice, we equip graduates to be able to address musculoskeletal dysfunction and common health conditions for a broad range of clients in safe, integrated sports, wellbeing, and health contexts (this qualification staircases into the Bachelor of Massage Qualification offered in New Zealand). |

Bachelor of Therapeutic and Sport Massage (BTSM) Year 2/NZ Diploma in Remedial Massage (Level 6) Gaining this qualification will provide the health sector and the massage therapy industry with people who can provide remedial massage services.
Graduates will be capable of working independently or within a multidisciplinary clinical setting. SIT offers this course in aHyFlex ('Hybrid-Flexible') format, blending face-to-face and online learning for added flexibility. Teaching occurs using a mix of online learning, practical experience, and traditional classroom teaching during compulsory block courses in Invercargill. HyFlex delivery allows students the flexibility to remain in their hometown massage therapy clinics and communities. There is an opportunity to study full-time or part-time within this programme. Course Outline Graduates of the New Zealand Diploma in Remedial Massage (Level 6) will be able to:

Bachelor of Therapeutic & Sports Massage Degree (BTSM) Year 3 of the Bachelor of Therapeutic and Sports Massage degree programme increases massage therapists' knowledge and skills, extending their ability in critical/professional/clinical reasoning to manage complex soft tissue rehabilitation. After successful completion of the Diploma L6 or the BTSM year 2, students can apply to enrol in to year 3 of the BTSM. Graduates are critical thinking, reflective practitioners with technical and professional competence, sound reasoning and research literacy. They have a capacity to manage knowledge and its acquisition during their working lives.
