Honouring a Founding Figure and Supporting a Growing Community
At Massage Aotearoa New Zealand (MANZ), we recently honoured the life and legacy of Jim Sandford — a pioneering figure in the development of professional massage in Aotearoa. Jim was a driving force behind the formation of the New Zealand Association of Therapeutic Massage Practitioners in 1989, helping lay the foundations for national standards, qualifications, and a united profession. His dedication reminds us of the lasting impact that committed individuals can have on an entire industry. We extend our deepest condolences to all who knew and worked alongside him.
Staying Connected Across Aotearoa
As we reflect on our shared history, we're also focused on the future — creating opportunities for massage therapists to connect, learn, and support one another. This includes local meetups and online kōrero that help build a stronger, more connected community of practitioners across the motu. These gatherings are open to our members and part of our ongoing effort to strengthen professional networks and whanaungatanga within the industry.
Growing Support for Practitioners
Our members currently have access to a growing range of education opportunities and industry savings designed to support their professional development. These include discounts with leading training providers and access to member-only resources to help practitioners stay current and confident in their work.
A Nationally United Membership
Membership renewals are tracking well across the country — a testament to the commitment of massage therapists from Northland to Southland. We're proud to be a truly national organisation, with a shared vision of advancing massage therapy for the health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders.
